Knowing How to Use Adverb of Sequence

A. Knowing Definition and Purpose of Adverb of Sequence

We use adverbs of sequence to describe the order in which things happen. We often use adverbs of sequence to tell a story, write a recipe, or give directions.

Kita menggunakan kata Adverb Of Sequence untuk menggambarkan urutan terjadinya sesuatu. Kita juga menggunakan Adverb Of Sequence untuk menceritakan sebuah cerita, menulis resep, atau memberikan arahan.

Adverbs of sequence almost always come at the beginning of a sentence and are followed by a comma (,)

Adverb of sequence selalu diletakkan di awal kalimat dan diikuti oleh koma (,)

Example:
First, do your homework.
Second, wash the dishes.
Next, read to your book.
Finally, you can relax.

B. Using Adverb of Sequence
     Penggunaan Adverb of Sequence

    To mention step by step of procedure text we dont use Cardinal Number (1,2,3, etc,...),
    but we use Ordinal Number below:
    Dalam menyebutkan langkah demi langkah kita jangan menggunal Cardinal Number
    seperti 1,2,3, dll..., tapi kita menggunakan Ordinal Number sebagai berikut:

•     In the begining (Jika diawal):
      First, Firstly, the first, for the first.

•     Continue with Ordinal Number (Lanjutkan dengan Ordinal Number):
      Second or the second, Third or the third, fourth, fifth, etc, ...
  

•     In the midle (Jika ditengah) :
      Next, the next, next to, then, and then, after that, etc ...

•     In the end steps (dilangkah terakhir) :
      the last, lastly, the last step, etc ...
  
  
•     Forgotten Info (Jika ada Langkah yang terlupakan):
      Oh, I almost fotgot, ....
      Oh, One more thing, ...
      Oh, I fotgot one step, ...

C. Example Using Adverb of Sequence on Procedure Text

Example 1:

How to Make Sandwich

Sandwich is a popular type of lunch food, taken to work, school, or picnics to be eaten as part of a packed lunch. The sandwich began as a portable finger food in the Western world, though over time it has become prevalent worldwide.

Ingredients of Sandwich consist of Mayonnaise, Butter, Sliced Bread, Mustard, Lettuce, Sliced Cheese, Sliced Ham, and Tomato 

Tools that we need are Butter Knife, Plate, Cutting Board, and knife.

Here Steps to make it. First, Prepare all the ingredients and tools, Second, Lay 2 slices of bread onto the cutting board. Third, Butter the side of one piece of bread that is facing up, using the butter knife. Next, spread a small amount of mayonnaise on one side of the other slice of bread. Then, With the plain sides of the slices of bread facing down, place 1-3 leaves of lettuce onto the buttered slice of bread. After that, Take 2-5 slices of ham and place on the same slice of bread the lettuce is on. Next step, slice the tomato so each slice is about ¾ of a centimetre each. Cut as many slices as you would like for your sandwich. After that, Apply mustard onto either slices of bread and spread the mustard onto the slice of bread with just the mayonnaise on it. Then, Place 2-6 slices of cheese onto one of the two slices of bread. The last, Take the bread slice with the mayonnaise and place mayonnaise side down onto the other slice with the other ingredients on it. Finally, Enjoy your sandwich

Example 2:

How to Make Milk Tea

Milk Tea is simple drink and easy to make it. We are usually serving it for breakfast or when we are enjoying evening. Ingredients of milk tea consists of 1 cup water, 1 teaspoon of your favorite tea leaves, 3/4 cup milk and Sweetener of your choice. 

The Tools that we need to make there are: Small strainer, Large tea mug, Teaspoon, Small pot, and Tea infuser

This is the directions to make it. First, Bring 1 cup of water to boil in a small pot. Second, Put 1 teaspoon of your favorite tea leaves in a tea diffuser, snap the diffuser shut and put the diffuser in the boiling water. Third, Brew the tea for 2-5 minutes. Then, Remove the tea diffuser. After that, Add 3/4 cup of milk to the tea. And then, Return the tea to a boil and remove it immediately to prevent scalding the milk. Next, Hold a small strainer over a large mug and strain the tea into the mug. The last, Add the sweetener.

How to Make Fried Rice

Ingredients:

• a plate of rice
• 1 red chili pepper, chopped
• a pinch of salt
• 1 clove of garlic, chopped
• 1 clove of chopped union
• 2 tablespoons of margarine
• 2 tablespoons soya sauce

Cooking Steps:

• Crush the red pepper, garlic, and union until they are very fine.
• Add the salt and margarine over low heat for two minutes.
• Add the rice and soya sauce.
• Stir until it is well mixed and the rice is hot.
• Serve hot on a plate.
• Garnish with shredded omelet and slice cucumber and tomatoes
